This summer is about saving lives but we have found that it is the partnerships that are making it all possible. The Summer of 1,000 Lives has really kicked off with a big bang. 48 adoptions in one day! In one week we saw triple the number of animals saved compared to the previous year. One component of this program is working with other local shelters and organizations to bring in dogs that are available for adoption to help meet the adoption demand this promotion is creating. When we have space we are able to take dogs and cats from other local shelters and bring in more owned pets needing to find homes. The groups we are in regular communication with are Bedford, Appomattox, Buckingham and Campbell County shelters.
Because People are adopting and promoting this campaign, we have been able to bring in 67 dogs and cats from other local pounds that now have a chance at finding a wonderful home in our community. We are spending money to advertise, but we are fortunate that Clear Channel Radio donated a lot of air time for this event and have been wonderful friends to the organization. Terry VW Subaru is picking up the tab of our TV spots and daily animal plugs on WSET. WSET has also partnered with us to provide coverage and media support when needed. They are all such great animal lovers, thank you WSET. News and Advance participated in our National Bring Your Dog to Work day and helped us bring in a number of donations. Without media attention we could not get the word out about all we are doing this summer and been able to save as many lives, we are so grateful for all they are doing to help.
We also want to thank Mayor Gillette who put forth a Mayor to Mayor challenge against the Mayor of Roanoke, stating that Lynchburg will win this competition against Angels of Assisi. who are competing against us in our division. Right now we are behind but we know that Lynchburg will step up and help us win $25,000 for our division!
This Summer of 1,000 Lives has really helped us connect with other amazing rescue groups, businesses and community members to show us that people care a lot about the pets in our community. Thank You!
